Pangasinan to host 2nd GATE chess clinic

Chess buffs all over the province and around the country will see action as series of chess tournaments will kick off on September 17 with the staging of the 2nd Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. chess clinic at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center here.

According to Modesto Operania, sports consultant of the province, the chess festival dubbed as Pangasinan Chess Festival – is part of the sports development program of the provincial government to develop the youth’s potential in mind games.

Aside from this, young and adult chess players will also have the chance to compete in three tournaments, namely, the Pangasinan Age Group Chess Championship to be held on October 15 to 16, the Pangasinan Chess Championship on November 19 to 20 and the 3rd Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr Cup Open Chess Tournament on December 21 to 22.
Meanwhile, the 2nd Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. chess clinic will be clustered in to three categories: Beginner, Intermediate and advance chess players which will be mentored by International Master Ricardo Cardozo and will be held on September 17, 18, 24, 25, October 1 and 2.

Under the age group are six age sections—Under 20, Under 18, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8.
The Pangasinan Chess Championship will be limited to Pangasinense players while the Open chess tournament is for all interested chess players.

Operania said the chess fest aims to promote and develop chess in Pangasinan and will provide exposure of players against grandmasters.

The tournaments will be sponsored by the provincial government and organized by the Pangasinan Chess Federation, and will serve as a training program for the young and talented chess players of Pangasinan.
