Ilocos Norte – The fight is over before the first round is finished. Silvester Lopez, the WBC Silver Superflyweight Champion knocked Chatpayak Sitnarits at 1:22 seconds in the first round. The Thai challenger failed to make the count as he lay motionless in the canvass even after referee Virgilio Garcia finished his count.
Sitnarits fell to the canvass with a barrage of blows from Lopez just after the opening bell.
The bout is the main event is what is dubbed as “Bakbakan Sa Norte”. It is the first international boxing match to be held in Ilocos Norte. Through the assistance of International Matchmaker Gabriel Flash Elorde Jr., Gov. Imee R. Marcos staged the fight in order to promote boxing in the province. Gov. Marcos also assured that the match will not be the last to be held in the province because of its huge success.
In the supporting bout, Ryan Sermona, RP # 3 Featherweight also knocked out his Thai challenger Rachata Twinsgym at 1:28 seconds in the second round.
Also featured in the preliminary bouts were Ryan Bito of Leyte who won over Gerald Ubatay of Angono, Rizal. Bito won by TKO at 2:56 seconds in the 6th round. Jaypee Otilla, the number 4 Bantamweight in the Philippines won over Arjet cabralles of Tanauan, Batangas by TKO at 2:52 seconds in the second round.
Although the fight is a none title match, Mr. Elorde explained that the fight is a very important match because it serves as an elimination bout to select the contender that will be fitted against the Thai Champion for the WBC title sometime in February next year.(Communications & Media Office, Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte)
